Mark McDermott, RH., AHG Aerostatx, (Glyceritum extractum Hydrastis, acetate extractum Lobelia...) International Generic Name Combined liquid otc product Botanical drug form and composition Nasal spray, 29.6 milliliters contains combinations of the pharmacological activity to include acetate extractum botanical Lobelia Inflata, (gtt <XII), glyceritum extractum botanical Hydrastis Canadensis, (gtt <VII), aqueous extractum botanical Euphrasia Rostkoviana, (gtt >VII), aqueous extractum botanical Baptisia Tinctoria, (gtt <XII). A. Bacteriostatic base includes organic extract components not limited to: citricidal, benzoin, thymol, eucalyptol, menthol, cinnamomum camphora, gaultheria procumbens, pinus sylvestris, mentha viridis, cinnamomum zeylanicum. B. Sodium chloride, potassium alum, potassium chlorate, sodium bicarbonate, glycerine, distilled water. Indications Acute-chronic rhinitis, rhinosporidiosis (La) and most diagnosed and undiagnosed fungal overloads. Recurrent non-malignant chronic epistaxis. Nasal polypus. Non-specific congestive nasal disorders. Dosage and administration The botanical spray is an intra-nasal. After a saline (spray) wash to clean the nasal discharge, the Aerostatx spray is engaged in each nostril, 1-2 sprays 3-4 times daily. A. Metered spray container mechanisms dispense gtt 1 each engagement. B. Manual “squeeze” bottles may dispense more or less than gtt 1. C. Aerostatx is generally non-toxic except when an allergic response occurs. As a non-toxic agent the spray dose (gtt) can be variable with each engagement without cascades (+-) in reaction. Practitioner dose variance is advisable on an individual patient therapeutic dose assessment. Contraindications Aerostatx is not used in cases of known sensitivity to some or any of the ingredients. Special warnings and precautions In patients under 4 years of age, Aerostatx is not advised. In patients with massive intra-nasal damage and in patients with E.N. T. malignancies or cancriform conditions Aerostatx is not dispensed. Drug interactions Aerostatx has been found not to be compatible with an otc cold remedy in one patient. No significant negative drug interactions have been observed. Aerostatx has been shown to be clinically relevant and synergistic when used with a patient’s currently prescribed medications. Adverse reactions In susceptible patients “momentary” painless nasal swelling will occur. Self-resolution is noticed with the increased ability to respire. Increased halitosis (a.m.) has been reported. Halitosis is not reported after two weeks of therapeutic compliance. Pharmacological mechanisms Aerostatx is a combined botanical drug. The nasal mucosa shows a good tolerance to this combination. Aerostatx provides a vasoconstrictive and anti-septic effect. Botanical Lobelia Inflata, botanical Euphrasia Rostkoviana (in combination)have a sympathomemetic vasoconstrictive effect, reduces swelling, decreases nasal discharge, improves breathing and in process reduces obstructive polyp size. Botanical Baptisia Tinctoria, botanical Hydrastis Canadensis possess wide spectrum anti-bacterial and anti-fungal actions. The bacteriostatic base facilitates the liquefaction and elimination of normal and disease discharge from the nasal cavity. Laboratory The completed prescriptive formulae Aerostatx is processed through a 0.45 micron filter. Supplied Metered nasal spray bottles 25mls, 20ml Content. (subject to substitution) “Squeeze” nasal spray bottles 35mls, 30ml Content. (subject to substitution) General expiration 2 years Other Accepted empiric and clinical data collected has not shown introduction of the Aerostatx botanical drug activity into the blood stream via intra-nasal spray. This precludes the idea of toxicity associated with massive per os herbal ingestion. This is significant for the dispensing practitioner to consider with other drug or botanical orders. Adjunct therapeutic values, differential pharmacological mechanisms Botanical Hydrastis Canadensis, natural order Ranunculaceae A. Active trophic (per os) B. Tonifies soft tissue Botanical Lobelia Inflata, natural order Lobeliaceae A. Anti-inflammatory B. Topical anodyne C. Anti-hemorrhagic (arrests simple epistaxis) Botanical Baptisia Tinctoria natural order Leguminosae A. Anti-septic B. Anti- fungal C. Anti-bacterial (topical and per os) all Botanical Euphrasia Rostkoviana natural order Scrophulariaceae A. Remedial agent to mucous structures B. Anti-catarrhal agent (topical and per os) C. Anti-histamine activity (per os) NOTE: While product appraisals provide clinical and pharmaceutical direction, natural substances may fail against standard chemical tests. The broad organic composition of one plant may confound most chemical evaluations and if combined with other botanicals this evaluation becomes impossible. Each addition of an ingredient links to and dismisses the pure identity of the former. Extraction processes of the herb, the continent of harvest and the viability of the local soil may also diminish or greatly empower the final product outcome. This work states “not limited to” in order to respect the diversity of the botanical- agriculture community. The Prescriptive Aerostatx Nasal Spray may not be identical as with a drug isolate or combination of isolate chemicals, but will and always has remained similar in clinical therapeutic action.
